Magnificent Moiré

‘Magnificent Moiré’ is truly the essence of her name – a one-of-a-kind creation, this gown marks the debut of a traditional couture fabric within the Phillipa Lepley collection.

With a silhouette that draws inspiration from the glamorous 1950s era, this gown features a beautiful big draped neckline. ‘Moiré’ taffeta swirls around the shoulders in soft asymmetric drapes that cross over and pinch into the defined corseted waist. 

The corset inside holds the structure of the dress to allow the fabric to be draped naturally, creating a framing, off-the-shoulder neckline full of life and body. 

Mirrored at the waist, pleats drape down into the full skirt at both the front and back to create a large flower-shaped skirt.

When designing this couture gown, Phillipa and her team ‘let the fabric do what it wanted to do’, led by its crisp texture and body.

The ‘moiré’ fabric, created through a special silk pressing process, boasts a watermark effect that mimics a delicate wood grain pattern. Like a fingerprint, no two pieces of cloth will ever be watermarked in the same way: this unique quality sets the stage for a truly special gown.
