Flora Vesterberg wears Bespoke Eveningwear
As featured on Vogue.com
For Flora Vesterberg’s fifth wedding anniversary in Stockholm, Phillipa designed a bespoke evening gown, created five years after their collaboration on her wedding dress. Crafted in the softest pale blue silk slipper satin, the full-length gown features a clean V neckline, short fluted sleeves, and a fluid silhouette.
The dress is adorned with bespoke hand-threaded and beaded floral embroidery across the bodice and sleeves, softly trailing through the waist. The handwork incorporates deeply personal motifs. “Flora’s wedding dress was closely in thought whilst creating this classic piece,” Phillipa explains. “The embellishment is subtle, muted, and very personal.”
The intricate hand-embroidery includes traditional couture techniques such as tambour stitch, satin stitch, and delicate crystal beading. Orchids, jasmine, and leaves echo the original wedding gown, joined by sweet peas of particular significance to Flora, and star-shaped stephanotis inspired by the Ogilvy tiara worn for her marriage blessing.
Speaking to Alexandra Macon at Vogue, Flora explains the inspiration behind the bespoke design.
“It was inspired by the Stockholm archipelago and was designed to move as fluidly as its waters. The soft blue slipper satin was reflective of their subtle tides – and that of the blue skies above.”
