Phillipa Lepley bride Bana married in Florence wearing a contemporary, dropped waist, couture gown.
Bana’s wedding dress was crafted from Phillipa’s adored white Italian duchess satin, specially sourced from an established couture mill in Lake Como for its luminous quality. A perfect pairing for a destination wedding in Florence.
Sculptural and striking, the gown required the most skilled hands, manipulating luxurious satin into a design that looks untouched. Its sleek silhouette was refined over multiple fittings at Phillipa Lepley in Chelsea, where the dress was tailored to Bana’s exact body measurements, its balance and proportion adjusted and refined on her frame.
The heavy-weight duchess satin was moulded over a specially developed, panelled dropped waist corset, designed to elegantly elongate the torso. The design featured a strapless neckline, cleverly cut away around the body to sit lower at the back than the front. The fabric was gathered into the dropped waist, extending into a voluminous skirt built over petticoats and finished with a long train. Extra refinement was given to the back of the skirt to achieve the desired volume. Hand-sewn buttons and loops lined the centre back and for the evening, the atelier team installed a bustle to loop the train up for dancing.
Bana paired her couture wedding dress with a ‘bouffant’, 1960s-style veil crafted from sustainable tulle.
“My dress was made by the Phillipa Lepley team in their London boutique, and it was one of the most special and highly technical experiences of my life. We had around ten fittings over nine months to get it exactly right. They measured, studied my body, and built the dress around it. It was such an intimate, special process.”
